Poems About Growing Up

Poems about growing up can be some of the most popular poems. Nostalgia is a universal feeling, and it’s an incredibly powerful one, too. So many of my early poems were nostalgia oriented. However, nostalgia poems don’t have to be about growing up, and poems about growing up don’t have to be nostalgic either. So we’ve collected a few poems that are specifically about growing up.

Poetry about Growing Up

Obviously poetry about growing up will touch on themes like childhood and memory. But a little deeper, there is something so profound about the loss of innocence, the nearly point-of-no-return type mentality that you just wake up with one day. These poems do a great job of either highlighting the joys of childhood, or mourning the loss of innocence. Enjoy this collection of poems about growing up!

CB: I first met Mark Gomez at the Writers Circle of Atlanta, the group of artists founded by Cat Keeton and Gabby Fenimore. Poems About a Grandfather

Poems about a Grandfather are usually imbued with a sense of nostalgia, a sense of admiration and love. They also serve as stark reminders of time, and how precious it can be. I have two poems, Memento and Eulogy, that are forthcoming in a collection titled No Bird Lives in my Heart. I love writing poems about my grandfather, and you should, too!

Poetry About Grandfathers

Poems about a grandfather and poetry about grandparents at large are beautiful things. Appreciate them while you can, and immortalize them in your poetry. My first collection, Celine: An Elegy, is dedicated to my grandmother. I hope that these poems about a grandfather will serve to inspire you. Most importantly, I hope you enjoy reading them!

Sailing Poems

For some reason, in the thousands of poems about the ocean and the sea, there are strikingly few sailing poems. Our very own Sam Kilkenny, also for some unknown reason, has a penchant for writing poetry about sailing. A lot of his poems for our Poetry is Plagiarism series ended up being about the sea or sailing in some capacity.

Why Sailing Poems?

Sailing poems have a lot of the same thematic elements as poems about the ocean, or poems about water in general. There’s so much mystery about the ocean, so much transience. Sailing poems are all about claiming agency over the ocean, over the unknown, or testing yourself against such harsh elements. Enjoy these sailing poems!

Best Edgar Allan Poe Poems

best Edgar Allan Poe poems

The Best Edgar Allan Poe Poems As with any “best of” list, trying to compile a list of the best Edgar Allan Poe poems is incredibly subjective. Poe has so many poems, and so I may have inevitably left your favorite off the list, but I tried to compile a list of his most famous works (which are very, very good) and a few of my personal favorites. The Raven Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore—While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,As of […]
